Maybe they realized that instead of filling the gap between Modern and Standard with a relatively affordable paper format, they could fill it with a digital-only one where all money goes directly into their pockets and they can increase that money with artificial injections of metagame-warping cards at any time. I wonder why they would've made a point of ignoring a format as its metagame burns over the course of eight months thanks to the same deck, while consistently feeding content and a fast ban schedule into Historic.
